Color Guard Sop
- This is sets standard and qualifications for membership in the Color Guard and establishes criteria for Color Guard awards.
- Composition of the Team. The Color Guard will be organized as follows:
- Color Guard Commander. The Color Guard Commander will normally be a LET-3 Cadet who has had two years of experience on the Color Guard. Specific duties are:
- Supervision of the Color Guard at all times.
- Know thoroughly the procedures contained in Section IX, Chapter 5, COLORS, FM 22-5 and train the Color Guard to perform the movements without fault.
- Makes recommendation to the advisor for appointment of subordinate leaders.
- Color Guard Executive Officer. The Color Guard Executive Officer is a LET-2 or LET-3 Cadet who is capable of assuming all the duties of the Commander. In addition he will:
- Keep the roll book and prepare the recommendations for awards.
- Assist in the supervision and training of the Color guard
- Oversee the issue of weapons and equipment.
- Insure that the Weapons, equipment, and Colors are maintained in good order and cleaned when necessary.
- Turn over to the Honor Guard Commander a list of the Color Guard for Home games at least two weeks prior to the game. This list will be posted at the game to authorize admission.
- Practice. Practice will start at a designated time will last until practice is finished. The following procedures will be complied with:
- The Color Guard will fail in and a roll call will be made
- Weapons and harnesses will be drawn and colors secured.
- Team practice will then commence
- At the completion of practice, the equipment and rifles will be turned in, the Color Guard will be dismissed, and members will leave the school building and grounds.
- Meets. The Color Guard will leave for meets along with the Drill Team.
- Special Activates. The color Guard will wear the Class “A” uniform or the uniform specified by the Color Guard Advisor for performances.
- Boots and beret are authorized to be worn by active team members after two meetings.
- The Color Guard tab is authorized to be worn after three official performances.
- The Color Guard ribbon is awarded after the first quarter of the school year of the last Color Guard competition (whichever is later) to those active members.
- The Color Guard varsity letter (if approved) is awarded after the third quarter (or last competition of the year) whichever is later to those Cadets who have not missed more than one Color Guard competition.
- Suspensions and Termination. Color Guard Members may be suspended upon the recommendation of the Color Guard Commander and Executive Office and the approval of the Color Guard Advisor. Upon suspension, the member must return his shoulder cord to the supply room immediately. Suspension for cause from one team will result in the cadet being suspended from all other JROTC teams. Some reasons for suspension are:
- Failure to attend practice, competitions, or presentations.
- Failure to achieve Color guard standards of proficiency.
- Failure to maintain high standards of dress and appearance.
- Failure to maintain passing grades in subjects other than JROTC
- Failure to adhere to high standards of conduct and discipline so as to bring discredit upon the Color Guard and/or the Corps of Cadets.
- Failure to comply with orders of the Color Guard Leaders.
- Failure to show up when scheduled to perform. Without a valid excuse and prior notification to the Color guard Commander.
